Met Office issue weather warning with snow forecast for Liverpool

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice as temperatures plummet across Merseyside.

Snow showers have been forecast by the weather organisation from this afternoon onwards, with snow already spotted in Widnes on Thursday morning.

Yesterday, The Met Office put out a warning for ice, but this has now been updated to include snow as well.

The warning has also been extended from 5pm today until Midnight on Friday.

The warning said: "Icy stretches are likely to form perhaps leading to some disruption to travel with snow falling for some places.

"Expect some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

"Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

"Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services."

In Liverpool sleet is forecast this evening and overnight, with snow showers forecast for Friday morning.

The Met Office forecast said: "Thursday will see a frosty and bright start, though some areas may see freezing fog patches that are slow to clear. Things soon turn cloudier, however, as a band of precipitation moves south - giving outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

"Tonight outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow continue to move southwards through the night. Widespread frost is expected, locally severe over any snow cover, and turning icy in places. Minimum temperature -4 °C.
