Manchester United set to sign Daniel James after failed Leeds United transfer

Six months is a long time in football and that's certainly the case with Leeds United's transfer interest for Swansea City winger Daniel James.

James was all posed to sign for Leeds at the end of the January window as Marcelo Bielsa prepared his squad for the final push in a bid to reach the Premier League.

A fee was agreed on deadline day between the two clubs and James passed a medical at Thorp Arch before heading to Ellland Road in order to complete the paperwork.

However, Swansea pulled the plug at the 11th hour claiming they could 'not agree suitable terms' with James heading back to the Liberty Stadium for the rest of the season.

That left Leeds with no time to turn to any alternative targets to supplement an attack that was weakened at the start of January when Samu Saiz left for Getafe

James has picked himself up since the disappointment to become a Welsh international with his reputation growing amid fine performances for the Swans.

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with a move and the Manchester Evening News now report that he's set to join Manchester United to become their first signing of the summer.

United have agreed personal terms with James and there is just a transfer fee to agree before the move to Old Trafford is confirmed. It's expected to be around £15m.

Leeds will be left ruing the last-ditch transfer decision taken by Swansea as they prepare for another season in the Championship.
