Major search ongoing in Kanturk, Co Cork for pensioner missing almost three days

A major search has been ongoing in Co Cork since Wednesday after a pensioner was reported missing.

Tadgh O'Riordan, 69, was last seen in Greenane, Kanturk, County Cork early on Wednesday morning.

Mr O'Riordan is described as being 5'7 inches in height and of medium build with blue eyes.

When last seen he was wearing brown glasses with round frames, a tan/brown jacket, navy/blue jumper with a white shirt, navy chino type pants and black shoes - he was also carrying a walking stick.

Gardai are appealing for information and have asked anyone with information to get in contact with them.

A garda spokesperson said: "Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Kanturk Garda Station on 029 20680 or The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."

Teams have been searching for the last three days in a wooded area in Kanturk in the hope of locating the man.

Mallow Search and Rescue, Kerry Civil Defence and Tipperary Civil Defence have all been involved in the search which is still ongoing.

Mallow Search and Rescue said in a statement on Wednesday night: "We were contacted today by Kanturk Gardai 9th October at midday to assist in the search for a missing person in the Kanturk area, members traveled to the area and remained there until the search was stood down at 9pm to night without success.

"Members will return again in the morning."
