Madhya Pradesh: Congress MLA Murli Morwal's absconding son arrested in rape case

INDORE: Badnagar Congress MLA, Murli Morwal's, son Karan who was absconding in a rape case for the past six months was arrested by Indore police from Maksi town of Dewas on Tuesday early morning.

"The accused was arrested by a team of Mahila police and brought to Indore Palasia police station," said IG Harinarayanachari Mishra.

As Karan was produced in front of the media by two constables and asked to remove his mask and hood, he pushed the hand of the constable who tried to take off his hood at the police station and went back inside.

The accused, police said, will be produced before the court and taken on remand for interrogations.

A 23-year-old female Congress worker had registered a case against Karan on April 2, 2021. She had claimed that she was taken to a hotel by Karan on February 14 where he laced a drink with intoxicants and then took her to his flat and raped her. She came to know about the incident the next morning after regaining consciousness. The accused however promised to marry her and raped her on several occasions.

MLA Morwal’s family, however, had termed the complaint as politically motivated and denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, Indore Mahila police along with crime branch officials had on October 19 detained MLA Murli Morwal’s younger son Shivam to enquire him about the rape case against his brother Karan Morwal by a fellow Congress woman. Subsequently, MLA Murli Morwal reached the Palasia police station and held talks with some officials.

A day after this, Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra on October 20 had warned Karan Morwal to surrender before the Indore Police within next 48 hours or else an exemplary action would be taken against him. However, he did not reach Indore.

On the directions of the home minister, IG Harinarayanachari Mishra also increased the reward on the accused Karan Morwal from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 on Wednesday.

The minister also warned Karan's father Murli Morwal, who is a Congress MLA from Badnagar in the Ujjain district, to take his son to the police station or else be ready to face the consequences.
