Livingston-born Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright continues his bid for the first Grand Slam of Darts title of his career today when he takes on Jose de Sousa in a last-16 tie.
The 2020 PDC World Championship winner breezed into the knockout stages thanks to a 5-0 victory over Mike de Decker in his final group game to ensure he would finish top of the pile.
He had started off the competition on Saturday with a commanding 5-1 win over Fallon Sherrock but a disappointing 5-4 loss at the hands of Belgian ace Gabriel Clemens meant victory was needed over de Decker to confirm his place in the next round.
Despite not being at his best and averaging just 88.41, the number two seed claimed a whitewash to top Group E behind Sherrock, who became the first female player to reach the last-16 of a major PDC tournament.
Wright, who was runner-up in the competition in both 2017 and 2019, could meet Sherrock in the quarter-final. She takes on Mensur Suljovic in the last-16 with the winner facing either Wright or de Sousa.
The final of the competition, held in Wolverhampton, takes place on Sunday.
