Liverpool and Everton have been given further encouragement the Premier League will restart next month by the news La Liga has permission to resume.
Football in Spain has been suspended since March 12 due to the coronavirus outbreak which has brought leagues across Europe to a standstill.
The country has been one of the most hardest hit in the Continent by the pandemic, although infection and death rates have reduced significantly in the past fortnight.
And that has prompted the Spanish Government to give the go-ahead for La Liga to resume, with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez giving the green light for games to be played from June 8 - although action is likely to begin a few days later on June 12.
It is a further sign that football authorities across Europe are determined to complete their seasons on the pitch rather than in the boardroom.
Premier League clubs returned to group training last week and will in the coming days decide when to resume contact training as part of their 'Project Restart' plan.
They continue to work towards games being played from June 12 onwards, although it is likely that date could be pushed back by at least a week.
In Germany, the Bundesliga resumed last weekend with their season now scheduled to be concluded on June 27.
And in Italy, while the government has said Serie A cannot restart before June 14, plans are in place to complete the country's top three divisions and the Coppa Italia by mid-August.
