Lionel Messi revealed that he once asked current Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane for his shirt early on in his career at Barcelona.
The six-time Ballon d'Or winner and Barca captain is regularly asked by his opponents to swap shirts at the end of games but does not make a habit of doing so himself.
The 33-year-old admitted in an interview with TyC Sports, however, that during one early El Clasico in his career when he came up against Zidane he couldn't resist the opportunity to get the jersey of the 1998 World Cup winner.
"I don't ask for shirts, I usually swap them, but I asked Zidane once," Messi said.
"If there is an Argentine I swap it with him, but, unless someone asks me, I'm not asking anyone."
Messi's future is still up in the air, with his contract with Barcelona set to expire at the end of the season.
His manager Ronald Koeman was asked about the latest in his situation after a 5-2 win against Getafe last week, but refused to give much away.
"The decision [to stay] is in his hands," Koeman said. "He never lets his concentration slip. If he does, you don't notice it in his game. We need him. He was decisive again.
"Let's hope he stays for many years."
For now, Messi will no doubt focus all his attention on the battle for the La Liga title in what is set to be a thrilling run-in in Spain.
Barca are currently in third place but are just two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid having played a game less.
They next face Granada on Thursday and Valencia on Sunday ahead of a potentially do-or-die match against Atletico on May 8.
