Lanarkshire Covid cases at their lowest level for seven months

New coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire fell by almost a third last week.

The Scottish Government today confirmed there had been another 26 cases recorded in the county yesterday.

As a result, there were 268 positive tests in the region last week, which is a decrease of 29.1 per cent on the previous week.

Covid-19 cases in the region are now at their lowest level for seven months after numbers fell for the third week in four and the 11th time in 2021.

Overall, Covid-19 cases in Lanarkshire are down by 88 per cent since the new year peak in the week beginning January 4, when 2353 were confirmed.

Deaths from coronavirus are also continuing to fall with one recorded in Lanarkshire in the last 10 days.

In total, 41,034 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire and 1316 people have died from the virus.

Lanarkshire has been the worst affected region in Scotland by coronavirus with 6199.4 cases and 198.8 deaths for every 100,000 residents.

Across the region, 358,141 people – 65.9 per cent of the population – have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccination and 113,672 of them – 20.9 per cent of the population – have received both doses.
