Juan Foyth sends message to Jose Mourinho amid talk of Tottenham exit

Juan Foyth has outlined his intentions to fight for a place in Tottenham Hotspur’s side next season, despite being linked with a move away from the club.

The defender has struggled to break through in north London, having joined Spurs back in 2017 before making his debut that same year.

The 22-year-old has made just seven appearances in all competitions this season, with just three of those coming since Jose Mourinho was appointed as manager.

A knee injury ruled Foyth out of Spurs’ run-in following the Premier League’s return in June, although he was able to return to the bench for the penultimate game of the season against Leicester City.

Jose Mourinho on how Spurs will look

He was left of the squad though for the final fixture at Crystal Palace on Sunday, and speculation has been rife as to his future at the club.

The defender has been linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with a number of clubs reportedly interested in a move for the young Argentine.

Foyth, though, has made it clear he wants to battle for his place in Mourinho’s side next season.

Speaking to Argentine sports show Libero, Foyth said: “If I have the chance to compete for a spot, I would like to stay at Spurs.

“Mourinho is very close to the players. Even though I didn’t play much, I think he’s a great coach and person. He wants to win at all costs.”
