Jose Mourinho sends brilliant message to Vincent Kompany about Liverpool's title challenge

Jose Mourinho has poked fun at helping Manchester City pip Liverpool to the title in 2013/14.

The Reds came close to ending their wait for a Premier League title under Brendan Rodgers five years ago, but a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Anfield ultimately proved to be their undoing.

Goals from Demba Ba and Willian ended Liverpool's 11-match winning run in April, with Manuel Pellegrini's City side ending up as champions.

And Mourinho, who was in charge of Chelsea for that fateful afternoon, shared a joke with former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

“When I gave you the title, you never said thank you, when I gave you the title by winning here and you didn’t even call me to say thank you," Mourinho said on Sky Sports.

Mourinho also went on to explain that the gap between the current Liverpool and Manchester City teams is not as wide as it was during 2014.

"You [Manchester City] were the best team, they [Liverpool] were not the best team, they were almost there but you were the best team. In this moment, I don’t think there is that difference in power.

"You are the champions of England, they are the champions of Europe, you know how to win, you know how to deal with the pressure, so for me, the game today is very, very important because if after today the difference is three points or six points, for me it’s very open. If the difference is nine points, for me, goodbye.”
