Join us LIVE as our experts explain when you'll get the £150 council tax rebate

Council tax rebates worth £150 are now being handed out by the government to help families during the cost of living crisis.

But not everyone is automatically entitled to the one-off payment, as it depends on your council tax banding.

The £150 payment has been earmarked to support families after a huge spike in yearly energy bills came into effect earlier this month.

To help you work out what it all means for you and your household, join us LIVE today (April 21) as our experts dissect the facts and loopholes in the scheme.

We’ll be taking your questions live - you can do this by dropping us a comment during the Facebook Live - or you can email us at mirror.money.saving@mirror.co.uk.

We want to hear your views, including whether you're happy with the £150 rebate and if the government is doing enough to help Brits beat the cost of living crisis.

Who is eligible for the council tax rebate?

The council tax rebate scheme is available to homes in England, Wales and Scotland and will be handed out to millions of families.

In each devolved nation, the one-off £150 payment will apply to homes in council tax bands A, B, C or D.

In Scotland, you'll also qualify if you're eligible for council tax reductions.

If you live in England or Wales you can find out your council tax band by entering your postcode into the government website here.

Those who live in Scotland will need to use the Scottish Assessors website.

How do I claim the council tax rebate?

If you pay for your council tax by direct debit, then the payment will be sent to you automatically.

The money will be issued as a one-off payment into your bank account, rather than as a discount off your council tax bill.

This means you need to keep paying your council tax bill as normal.

If you don't pay by direct debit, and you're eligible for the £150 payment, then your council should write to you and ask for your details.

Those who pay by direct debit will receive their payments first, as councils already have their details.

This means if you don't pay by direct debit, you may experience delays in receiving the council tax rebate.
