Joey Veerman Rangers transfer boost as competitors 'pull out' of Heerenveen negotiations

Rangers chances of signing Joey Veerman received a boost after Hellas Verona reportedly pulled out of negotiations.

The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a move to Ibrox and the Serie A outfit, although they have apparently now turned their attention to Manchester City ’s Ivan Ilic.

The Serbian spent last season on loan at Verona but an approach regarding a second loan spell was knocked by his parent club.

They then tried to prize Veerman away from Heerenveen for £4.2million according to Sky Italia.

But they now report that Verona have ended their interest after the Eredivise club held out for closer to £8.2million for the former Netherlands Under 21 international.

Verona are now attempting to sign Ilic on a permanent basis.

That means less competition for Rangers, although it’s possible they too could be priced out of a move.

Heerenveen’s sporting director Ferry de haan has admitted that the club are “looking at” a bid for the 22-year-old but hasn’t revealed from which club.

Steven Gerrard is keen to bolster his midfield and rates Veerman, but funds aren’t unlimited.

However, their negotiating position is strengthened by Verona pulling out and with Glen Kamara linked with a big money move south, it may be a case of getting transfer funds in before making a move should they seek a replacement.
