Jason Pierre-Paul released from hospital after auto accident

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Thursday star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul had been in a car accident earlier in the day, which sent him to a South Florida hospital.

Per Buccaneers.com:

“We have been informed that Jason was involved in a one-car accident early this morning in South Florida in which he was not cited. We know that he was evaluated at a local hospital and has since been released. Our immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of Jason and his passenger. We have been in contact with Jason and will be getting him further evaluated by our medical staff in the near future.”

Pierre-Paul was reportedly in the incident at 5 a.m. in Broward County. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found his SUV damaged.

TMZ reported the 30-year-old is not accused of any wrongdoing and he was not speeding.

Pierre-Paul was hospitalized in 2015 after a July 4 fireworks accident left him with serious hand injuries, including the amputation of his right index finger.

He signed a four-year contract worth $62 million with the New York Giants, who drafted him in the first round in 2010, in 2017. Pierre-Paul was traded to Tampa Bay in the spring of 2018.
