As some countries overseas are making proof of vaccination a visitor entry qualification, sources said the government has decided to issue such documentation.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato will lead the government discussion on the format of the certificate and other related matters.
Local governments are expected to be the main issuers of the vaccination certificate. Since the format and procedures may vary among these governments, the central government will standardize such matters.
According to the sources related to the government, at first, paper certificates will be issued, but the plan is to make them digital so they can be displayed on smartphones and other such equipment in the future.
