Ivan Toney Celtic transfer tip-off as wanted striker closes in on Peterborough exit

Peterborough chairman Barry Fry has revealed he informed Celtic that Ivan Toney is closing in on a deal with another club.

The 24-year-old is a wanted man after netting 26 times for Posh before the League One season was curtailed due to lockdown.

A clutch of sides have been circling around the former Newcastle forward with both Celtic and Rangers linked with the free-scoring Peterborough star.

Record Sport revealed in January that the Premiership champions had watched Toney on more than one occasion but it's understood Premier League promotion hopefuls Brentford are closing in on a deal.

And Fry admits he let Celtic know that a deal is on the table for Toney to depart London Road in a money-spinning deal.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 75-year-old said: "We have given a club permission to speak to Ivan because they met our valuation,

"It's not Celtic but, out of courtesy, I let Celtic know what had happened.

"They asked to be kept informed and we informed them. I haven't heard from them since then."

Peterborough initially wanted £15m for their main man but it's understood their valuation shifted in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Celtic have joined the chase to land West Ham striker Albian Ajeti.
