Ibrahima Konate's agent drops summer transfer hint amid Liverpool speculation

Ibrahima Konate’s agent has revealed that he is expecting 'three or four very big deals' for his clients this summer.

It was yesterday claimed that Liverpool were in 'advanced talks' and had made 'significant progress' in recent days with RB Leipzig over a deal for the French international.

However, Liverpool sources close to the ECHO are remaining tight-lipped on the speculation suggesting they are at an advanced stage of their negotiations for Konate.

But the ECHO does understand that Konate is on a five-man centre-back shortlist drawn up by Liverpool as they prepare for this summer's transfer window.

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche yesterday claimed Konate will not be sold to Liverpool amid continued speculation around the defender’s Leipzig future from across Europe.

He said: "I think that this is not an option for Ibu. He has a long contract with us and he knows what we mean to him and what he means to us.

"He was unlucky last year as he had a long-term injury but this year he is developing well and he is an extremely important player that has a lot of potential.

"We want to help him to develop further, and we play in Europe and have a very good team, so I don't see a reason for him to leave us."

But now Jonathan Barnett, who also represents stars like Gareth Bale, Mason Mount, Jack Grealish and Ben Chilwell, claims some big transfers involving his clients could take place this summer.

“It is going to be harder (due to the pandemic),” he told The Athletic. “I’m expecting three or four very big deals of my own that will break a lot of records. Hopefully, they’ll come about.”

"For the smaller clubs, I think there won’t be as many transfers. We have some very good players.

“We have probably the best young player in the world in (Eduardo) Camavinga. We’ve got Grealish. We’ve got Konate at Leipzig. But then I’ve got over 100 players.”

While speaking yesterday, Konate claimed he isn't paying too much attention to talk over a move to the Reds just now.

He told L'Equipe: "I woke up, I saw my phone ringing all over the place. I just wanted to tell them: 'Hey, I played yesterday, I'm tired, leave me alone.'

"Frankly, I don't even watch this [speculation]. We can't focus on that, there are the Euros and then my return to the club. You have to focus on that and not on the external things."
