Huge knife found hidden inside tree at Leeds park where children play

A large knife has been found stashed inside a tree in a Leeds park.

West Yorkshire Police for Leeds South announced on October 5 that a member of the public found the knife yesterday morning and informed them.

It was tucked inside a tree in Cross Flatts Park in Beeston.

Shown next to a ruler in one of the police's pictures, the knife is more than 60cm long.

In a statement posted to Facebook, West Yorkshire Police said: "We were both saddened and angry to find this where children play!

"Please help us keep the parks and green spaces safe for everybody to use."

Local residents commented on the post to say the discovery made them feel unsafe, with some calling for lighting in parks.

Beeston and Holbeck generally have a high incidence of knife crime over the years compared to other areas of Leeds.

From 2017 to 2018, there were 118 knife offences in Beeston and Holbeck, making it the fifth worst affected area in the whole of Leeds.
