Witnesses believe the blaze started at around 7.10am, with thick black smoke seen pouring out from one of the top floor apartments in the Hanley area of Stoke on Trent.

According to Stoke-on-Trent Live, there is currently a large emergency presence at the scene, including eight fire crews, PCSOs and at least four ambulances.

An air ambulance was also spotted touching down nearby as firefighters continue to tackle the inferno.
