INDORE: Amidst the pandemic, the risk of heart-related issues has hiked manifold among youngsters especially among those who had clinical or sub clinical exposure to Covid-19, said city cardiologists.
According to the experts, those who recovered from Covid-19 are also at an increased risk of heart attack, irrespective of the severity of the infection or family history.
During acute infection as well as post-recovery period, Covid-19 can cause blood clots. Depending on the site of blood clot formation, the clinical picture -be it heart attack, stroke etc- may vary.
“The risk of heart diseases has increased among the younger people too especially due to Covid-19,” city-based cardiologist, Dr Bharat Rawat told TOI.
According to the experts, out of the 30-40 per cent adults below 40 years of age have been facing heart issues, of which, around 20 per cent were those who had been down with Covid-19.
There has been a rise in the patients suffering with cardiovascular complications who are in their 20s and 30s as Covid-19 is an inflammatory condition and along with lungs it has been affecting the heart too, another cardiologist, Dr Sagheer Ahmed told TOI.
Apart from having a family history, if the person is a chain smoker or consumes tobacco, they have more probability of suffering with a heart disease considering the increased tendency of blood clots.
Although the family history cannot be changed, the experts suggest that it would be extremely beneficial for all the youngsters to imbibe a healthy lifestyle.
High level of stress, frustration accompanied with the sedentary lifestyle owing to the pandemic has contributed to the rise in heart related issues among the youngsters, said cardiologist, Dr Siddhant Jain.
“Consumption of tobacco and smoking addiction besides high cholesterol is also contributing to heart-related issues. For a healthy life, one has to have a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach,” he added.
