Harry Kane claim made as fresh Tottenham and Manchester United transfer link emerges

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Tuesday, December 22.

Kane tactic questioned

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has pinpointed where he believes Tottenham went wrong against Leicester City.

Spurs suffered their second consecutive defeat on Sunday when they lost 2-0 at home to Brendan Rodgers' men, slipping to fifth in the process.

Jose Mourinho has had success this season from allowing lead striker Harry Kane to drop into deep spaces, hold the ball up and bring the wingers into play.

But that did not work against Leicester, and Hasselbaink thinks the tactic should be ditched to get the best out of Kane.

Asked what was missing from the performance against Leicester, he told Sky Sports: “Everything. Intensity, how they approached the game, Harry Kane coming in way too deep, way too often - I don’t like it."

Mourinho advice recalled

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay stole the headlines over the weekend as he scored twice in his side's 6-2 rout of Leeds United.

The Scotland international, who came through the ranks at Old Trafford, scored twice in the opening three minutes of the Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The 24-year-old was the preferred option in central midfield by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Paul Pogba among those left on the subs' bench.

One man who will be particularly proud of his efforts is legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The former boss at Old Trafford had a brief exchange with then United manager Jose Mourinho back in 2018 about the player.

In an event remembering the families and victims of the Munich air disaster, Ferguson was seen having a quick word with his fellow countryman before speaking with Mourinho.

And as reported by the Daily Star at the time, Ferguson appeared to tell the 'Special One' to pick McTominay in United's teams for the rest of the season.

Fresh Milenkovic link

Tottenham have once more been linked with a move for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.

Italian media outlet La Nazione reports (via Sport Witness) that the Serie A club are bracing themselves ahead of potential offers for the player.

It is said that interest from other clubs could hamper Fiorentina's efforts to tie down Milenkovic to a new contract.

His current deal expires in 2022 and Spurs are mentioned as a possible destination for him. Premier League rivals Manchester United and AC Milan are also credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.

Fiorentina are reported to want 25million euros for Milenkovic, which equates to just under £23million.
