Game of Thrones prequel is not called The Long Night, author George RR Martin says

A Song of Ice and Fire author George RR Martin ( HBO )

George RR Martin has clarified that the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off does not have an official title yet.

The author behind the A Song of Ice and Fire novels previously claimed the series would be called The Long Night, but has since backtracked.

“HBO has informed me that the Jane Goldman pilot is not (yet) titled The Long Night,” Martin wrote in Not A Blog

“That’s is certainly the title I prefer, but for the moment the pilot is still officially Untitled. So… mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa.”

Martin also confirmed that there are other Thrones spin-off shows in development, but could not say anything more on them.

Naomi Watts has been cast as lead for the upcoming untitled show, with Poldark star Josh Whitehouse taking on the male lead.

Screenwriter Jane Goldman, who co-wrote Kick-Ass with Matthew Vaughn, is behind the prequel, which takes place thousands of years before the events told in Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones, which aired for the first time in 2011, will conclude with its eighth season in 2019. Readeverything we know about the upcoming season here.
