Nine dead in cylinder explosion in Gujarat

Nine persons, including four children, have died of severe burns they suffered in a cooking gas cylinder explosion on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city.

The victims are migrant labourers from neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.

The incident occurred on the night of July 20. While eight victims died in the last couple of days during treatment, another died on Saturday.

“Leakage of gas from an LPG cylinder triggered an explosion and fire, in which 10 persons, including children and women, suffered severe burn injuries. They were undergoing treatment at the civil hospital,” inspector P.R. Jadeja of Aslali police station said.

The migrant workers were sleeping in a small room when their gas cylinder started leaking. When a neighbour knocked on their door to alert them, one person switched on the light, which triggered the explosion. Their neighbour too suffered burns.

The State government authorities have sent the bodies of the victims to their native place.
