Former White House strategist Stephen Bannon stepping down from Breitbart

Former White House adviser Stephen Bannon has stepped down from his post at Breitbart News Network in the wake of controversy over his statements quoted in a book about the Trump White House, the news site confirmed Tuesday.

Bannon had served as executive chairman of the right-wing news site since 2012.

Bannon and Breitbart will work together on a smooth and orderly transition.

"I'm proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform," Bannon was quoted as saying on the website.

Breitbart CEO Larry Solov added: "Steve is a valued part of our legacy, and we will always be grateful for his contributions, and what he has helped us to accomplish."
