Former President George H.W. Bush is hospitalized again for pneumonia

DALLAS _ Former President George H.W. Bush has been hospitalized for the second time this year.

Bush spokesman Jim McGrath confirmed to KHOU-TV that the 92-year-old is at Houston Methodist Hospital but shouldn't be there long.

"He is already well on the path to recovery and going home," McGrath said.

McGrath said Bush was admitted to the hospital Friday for a persistent cough. Doctors determined he had a mild case of pneumonia.

The former president remains at the hospital for observation, McGrath said.

Bush was hospitalized for about two weeks in January to be treated for pneumonia. His wife, 91-year-old Barbara Bush, also spent several days at Methodist in January because of bronchitis.

The couple celebrated their 72nd anniversary on Jan. 6; their marriage is the longest of any presidential couple in American history. In February, they were on the field before Super Bowl LI in Houston so the 41st president could perform the pregame coin toss.
