Former Chelsea man makes bold Eden Hazard statement about UEFA Super Cup star

Former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino has issued a bold statement about one of Frank Lampard's leading new men after the European Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.

Chelsea suffered a cruel loss in Istanbul on Wednesday evening as they were defeated 5-4 on penalties, with the match having been tied at 2-2 at the end of extra-time.

Olivier Giroud gave Chelsea the lead in the first half before Sadio Mane hit back after the break for Liverpool and put the Reds in front five minutes into extra-time.

Jorginho equalised from the penalty spot after Tammy Abraham was brought down by Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian, but Abraham's missed penalty in the shootout led to the Reds prevailing.

However, Christian Pulisic starred for the Blues throughout and looked a real danger in attacking situations.

It was the USA international's first competitive start for Chelsea since his permanent switch from Borussia Dortmund went through this summer.

While Chelsea had a transfer ban over their heads during the summer window, an agreement with Dortmund to sign Pulisic dating back to January allowed the Blues to still bring in the 20-year-old for £58m, with the forward loaned back to Germany for the rest of the 2018/19 season.

Pulisic's arrival could not have come at a better time in light of Hazard's departure to Real Madrid and one former Chelsea man in Cascarino actually believes that the former Dortmund star can replicate his predecessor's success at Stamford Bridge.

"Christian Pulisic looks like he will be a very dangerous player for Chelsea," Cascarino told The Times.

"Jurgen Klopp had been interested in the young forward and you could tell he was wary of his threat as he changed his defence to counter him, selecting Joe Gomez at right back instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“Gomez is a better defender than his team-mate but it still wasn’t enough to stop the United States international at times.

"I don’t remember a young Eden Hazard being as quick and direct and there’s no reason Pulisic can’t develop into a player of Hazard’s standing."
