Ben Godfrey will improve Everton's defence and be able to adapt to the pressure of competition according to England under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd.
The centre-back was one of two deadline day signings for Carlo Ancelotti's side, making the move from Norwich before Robin Olsen joined the club later in the day.
The 22-year-old is set to bolster competition for the Blues in their centre-back slot with Yerry Mina and Michael Keane both thriving so far this season, while Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite are recovering from injuries sustained in the summer.
Heading from the Championship to the Premier League naturally increases pressure on players to perform, and Boothroyd is confident his England U21 star can cope with that.
He told The Athletic : “He’ll bring competition [to Everton’s defence] first. He’s got two guys ahead of him initially and he’s got to make a stake for his place, which he will.
“He’s the sort of guy that can handle the pressure of going into an environment like that.
“He’s got a top manager and coaching team to work with, and they’ll help him become an even better player than he was at Norwich.
“He’s got to kick on because the Premier League is a lot more forgiving than the Championship.
“I’m sure he will.”
Godfrey could be included in an Everton squad for the first time this weekend, with Liverpool making the visit to Goodison Park on Saturday.
The Blues are waiting for an update on Yerry Mina, who was left out of Colombia's match with Chile earlier this week as a precaution following a thigh issue.
