An Edinburgh beach has been covered in sewage with a deep whirlpool after a sewer has collapsed.
The sewer at Figgate Burn by Portobello beach collapsed over the weekend and locals reported a deep whirlpool and sewage leaking into the sea.
Scottish Water have said due to the complexity of the repair it will take up to three weeks to repair and they are in the early stages of planning the work.

Many locals were concerned about the depth of the whirlpool and lack of signage for the public's safety.
The shocking video shows a whirlpool swirling with a plastic gate sunk inside.
Some locals reported seeing sewage come up and float around the shallow area with some reporting seeing toilet waste.
The collapsed sewer is located just metres from Portobello Swim Centre and can be seen from the promenade.
Local Andy May said to Edinburgh Live: “There is not much of a smell really.
“Looked pretty dangerous though, if a child or pet had fallen in.
“It’s not as dramatic at low tide. Though the hole in the collapsed pipe is big enough to trap a small dog.”
Another local said: “Does not look good today. Lots of loo roll washed up too.”
A Scottish Water spokesperson said:
“We were made aware of an issue with the sewer on the beach by the Figgate Burn on Sunday.
“Our teams attended and have found that a section of sewer has collapsed. We are monitoring this closely to ensure that this isn’t leaking on to the beach.
“Due to the location, this is a very complex repair and the team are working on plans to carry this out safely.
“We are in the early stages of planning and expect this to take around two to three weeks to repair."
Scottish Water confirmed they do not believe that this is causing an additional risk to swimming.
