England boss Eddie Jones said that Ireland fed from England's lack of intensity at the Aviva Stadium today after things started going wrong for his team.
But Jones insisted that there was no surprise for him in the performance of Andy Farrell's players, with his side consigned to fifth place in the championship table.
"No, we thought that they would come through the door pretty hard, mate, we thought they would kick a lot, and they did," Jones said.
"They got their tactics right and the scoreline indicates that.
"As I said before, this is a transition period and two years out from the World Cup, this can happen. "
England flanker Tom Curry added: "We're almost there but it's not just clicking, I'm confident we'll come out better, absolutely.
"Today we can't play well for 30 or 40 minutes in an 80 minute game, there was that middle bit when Ireland kept rising and rising and it makes for a hard day, but fair play to Ireland, they got things right tactically."
Asked what was different about Ireland this time having lost to England in their last four meetings, Curry said:"Ah, they were just clinical.
"We didn't stay consistent enough with how we wanted to play, but also credit to them, they stayed clinical and direct, so credit to them."
