Ed Volkman's former Gold Coast condo sells for $1.18 million

Nov. 18--A four-bedroom, 26th-floor condominium on Lake Shore Drive in the Gold Coast that longtime Chicago radio host Ed Volkman owned from 2004 until 2014 sold in September for $1.18 million.

Volkman, 59, paid $1.51 million in 2004 for the seven-room, 3,400-square-foot unit. He first listed it in 2012 for just under $2 million and later reduced his asking price to $1.75 million before taking it off the market in 2013. Features at that time included 3 1/2 baths, a Jacuzzi tub in the master suite, a fireplace, two balconies and plantation shutters throughout.

The unit sold at a sheriff's sale in March to the Judicial Sales Corporation, which then sold it in September to a Northbrook limited liability company.

At one time, the building was filled with Chicago broadcasters, but most have moved on. Volkman's former on-air partner, Joseph Colborn, sold his 23rd-floor unit in 2014 for $700,000. In May, WGN-Ch. 9 sports anchor Rich King sold his unit -- which is just down the hall from Volkman's -- for $965,000. And WMAQ-Ch. 5 reporter Susan Carlson sold a lower-floor unit in March for $410,000.

Volkman is not currently on the air, although he has been podcasting. In a text message, Volkman said he is living "in another property my family owns, temporarily. Where I move next depends on job prospects."
