Dozens of trees have been cut down on "treasured" woodland, as work begins on a new-build estate with 178 homes.
Work has begun on a Gleeson housing estate on woodland off Hillside Avenue, Huyton, which was given permission at the end of 2021.
The work on the plot of land started in January 2022 with a number of trees being cut down.

During the planning process several objections were received by people living in the area saying they were concerned at the loss of 120 trees from the site and a green space.
One person described the woodland as “the only piece of natural land remaining in the area.”
Several residents offered support for the proposals, citing problems with fly tipping and anti-social behaviour at the site, which was previously a residential development before being demolished several years ago.
A spokesperson from Gleeson said: "We are delighted to be delivering 178 fantastic new homes to Huyton, an area where we are seeing great success with our recent developments.
"We are pleased to be championing the area, supporting the community with our affordable homes, and employing a workforce on site that includes local labour and contractors.
"Our Section 106 donations will make a significant contribution in helping protect local wildlife and boost ecology with the replanting of 60 trees in the area.
"Crucially, we are determined to ensure that the housing market better serves young first-time buyers and families on low to average incomes."
The new estate, named 'The Safari', will offer 36 two bedroom, 24 four bedroom and 118 three bedroom homes.
Gleeson will also be offering a number of affordable homes and will be accepting Help to Buy applications.
A spokesperson from Gleeson said: "The first new homes at Safari are due to be released for sale in the spring with prices anticipated to start from only £135,000 for a two-bedroom home and we are already seeing a lot of interest from local young first-time buyers and key workers."
