Demi Lovato to perform US national anthem at Superbowl as she plans comeback

Demi Lovato has announced that she will perform the US national anthem at the Superbowl next month.

Her team confirmed the news on her social media accounts on Thursday afternoon with a stunning picture of the singer.

In the snap the 27-year-old looks glam with a short black bob hairstyle and orange eyeshadow as she pouts looking away from the camera.

"Watch Demi perform the National Anthem at #SBLIV on February 2nd!" an announcement posted to her Twitter account said.

The Superbowl takes place on February 2 and Demi will perform first, with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira headlining the halftime show.

Last year the national anthem was sung by Gladys Knight and the year before that it was Pink.

It comes after it was announced that Demi would be performing at the Grammys this month.

Demi's last single, called Sober, was released in June 2018.

She hasn't performed live since 2018, before being hospitalised for a drug overdose that July.

Demi was in hospital for 12 days and later checked herself into a rehab for a three-month stint after her near-death experience.

In December 2018, she took to Twitter to address the overdose, telling her fans: "If I feel like the world needs to know something, I will tell them MYSELF.

"All my fans need to know is I'm working hard on myself, I'm happy and clean and I'm SO grateful for their support."

Addressing the speculation, she agreed to: "Tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened and what my life is like today... but until I'm ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up s**t that you know nothing about.

"I still need space and time to heal."
