David Moyes makes extraordinary West Ham Premier League title claim

West Ham boss David Moyes admits he will start next season with the same goal as always - winning the Premier League.

The Hammers have spent much of the season battling the drop and only mathematically secured their top flight status recently.

Moyes has returned for a second spell at the London Stadium and has confessed to lofty ambitions.

West Ham's best Premier League performance was a fifth place finish achieved by Harry Redknapp in 1999.

Moyes' most impressive showing was leading Everton to fourth in 2005 and the 54-year-old has claimed that his ambition will be to lead the east London outfit to the summit - no matter how unrealistic is sounds.

He said: "I see lots of things covering the word progress, not necessarily the league table, it's the players we get in around the club.

"But progress as seen by the media and the supporters is where you are in the league table. I accept the question.

"I always want to finish at the top. I always want to be first. I don't think I’m aiming to be anything other than winning the league.

"I'm not starting the season to finish just outside the bottom three. We'll start the season to win the league, to win every game.

"But as I said before if you're making progress there's a good chance it will be small steps. So we have to try and do that.

"But the at the opening of the season it's to win every game and be qualifying up at the top end of the league and winning the league.

"That would be the way to set it out. But then you'll say 'come on David start being realistic'. But it's the question you've given me so there you go."
