Dave Martinez was checked by a doctor after his animated World Series tirade

Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez was ejected during Tuesday’s Game 6 of the World Series after a questionable interference call nearly wasted a big seventh inning for the team.

Given the gravity (and, honestly, the absurdity) of the umpiring crew’s call, Martinez was heated. He needed to be physically restrained as he went after umpires Gary Cederstrom and Sam Holbrook. But it took a fan in the stands to remind Martinez that he needed to chill … for his own wellbeing.

Martinez underwent a cardiac catheterization this year after a heart scare. And his seventh-inning tirade was so animated that a doctor checked on Martinez in the clubhouse just to be safe.

Thankfully, everything seemed to check out fine for Martinez after the ejection.

But you can’t blame the team doctor for playing it on the safe side. After all, Martinez had been instructed to stop consuming caffeine — blowing up on the umpiring crew like that was probably more strenuous on the heart than some coffee.
