Coronavirus Scotland: 803 new cases as schools get set for return next week

A total of 803 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Scotland in the last 24 hours, with a further 29 dead.

Of the 19,882 tests which reported results, 4.6 per cent were positive, down slightly on the number of new cases reported by deputy FM John Swinney on Friday.

1,154 are currently being treated by medics for the virus in hospital, down on the figure of 1,222 people reported yesterday.

102 people are in intensive with recently confirmed Covid, up slightly on the 98 people reported on Friday.

In better news, over 1.4 million have now been vaccinated for the virus, with 1,412,643 having received their first dose.

33,473 have received their second dose, official figures show.

31 new reported deaths were reported on Friday, alongside 29 new deaths today, this takes the death toll in Scotland amongst people who had tested positive for the virus to 6945.

9,053 deaths have been registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to 14 February.

It comes ahead of the phased return of schools on Monday, with classes due to restart for the youngest pupils as well as those at nursery.

From February 22, children in primary one to three will be allowed to return, whilst those in the senior phase of high school will be able to attend school on a limited basis to complete practical work.
