Conor McGregor win over Donald Cerrone was quietest ever Notorious bout for Las Vegas

Conor McGregor’s win over Donald Cerrone was the quietest ever bout involving him for Las Vegas.

Business usually spikes in Sin City for fights involving the Dubliner, but this one was particularly quiet as very few Irish fight fans made the journey to Nevada.

Bar man and Kilkenny native Des Kenny, who works in the Ri Ra Irish bar in the Mandalay Bay hotel, revealed how The Notorious’ bouts are usually busier than St Patrick’s Day - but not this time around.

He told Dublin Live: “We always get a good crowd when McGregor’s fighting here. For the previous fight, we had 800 people in here.

“Business wise this was the quietest. I think because it was announced late, but I noticed it wasn’t at all as busy as previous fights.

“I’m not sure how many were in here for it, but it definitely wasn’t 800. Probably about 200.”

Irish people usually flock to Vegas in their thousands for McGregor fights, but very few made the trip this time around.

When asked if there had been many Irish around, Des, 65, replied: “No. Not like it used to be. There is a few around, but not like it used to be.

“This has always been the home for the McGregor fans and when he fought Floyd Mayweather, MGM charged $125 for people to come in to watch it.”

McGregor has plenty of options for his next fight, but Des thinks a rematch with Khabib would be one of the biggest fights of all time.

He added: “I’d like to see him fight that Russian guy here in Vegas. That would be amazing for us. That would be big business.

“I’d say it would be the busiest of all time. It would be revenge, wouldn’t it?”

Meanwhile, McGregor’s niece Taylor celebrated his win by going shopping in Vegas on Sunday.

Erin McGregor’s daughter shared a video on her Instagram story, saying: “Shopping day after a great night last night.”

McGregor was joined by a number of his family for the bout in Sin City, but his mam Margaret didn’t make the trip.

Dedicating his win to her, he said: “For me ma back home, I love you to bits ma. I’m coming home with a win.”

The Notorious is expected to hold talks with UFC President Dana White and former UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta today about his next fight before jetting back to Ireland.
