Confirmed Arsenal XI vs Brighton: Stephan Lichtsteiner starts as Mesut Ozil captains Gunners

Stephan Lichtsteiner has been handed a surprise start by Unai Emery as Arsenal bid to keep their Champions League qualification hopes against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The veteran right-back has not featured for Arsenal since February 24 and is expected to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Elsewhere Mesut Ozil captains a side that sees captain Laurent Koscielny and Sead Kolasinac rested following Thursday's 3-1 victory over Valencia.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette also start in attack for Emery's side, who will move within a point of rivals Tottenham with a win.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is suspended after picking up two yellow cards in the defeat to Leicester City whilst a quintet of players - Denis Suarez, Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck, Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding - are out for the remainder of the season with long-term injuries.

Crystal Palace's victory over Cardiff City on Sunday guaranteed Brighton's survival but Emery is not taking anything for granted against Chris Hughton's side.

"They are a good team with a very good coach. They are organised and have been in the Premier League for the last years, playing with big performances. It’s going to be difficult for us.

"For example, we played against Crystal Palace who were safe, but they played with a big performance and won against us."
