Concerns over 'incredibly noisy' off-road bikers on country park

People living in Broxtowe are concerned about off-road bikers with the suggestion of community protection officers having more of a presence in the area.

Residents in Broxtowe have spoken out about how they ‘fear’ an accident may happen especially after an incident that took place earlier last month.

Motorbikes and quads that 'tear up and down' the park are an ongoing issue for some residents.

On July 5th, a man sustained serious injuries after being hit by a motorbike at the Nottingham Road entrance of Broxtowe Country Park at around 3.30pm.

Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward which can be done by calling 101 and quoting incident number 556.

Helen Bramwell, a 27-year-old sales assistant who lives nearby in Nuthall Road, admits that for her, off-road bikers are an issue in the area.

Miss Bramwell says she fears that one of her children will get knocked over by a quad bike whilst they're playing on Broxtowe Country Park.

Miss Bramwell also fears that her dog, or someone else's, may get injured by a 'careless' biker.

Anthony Coy, 66-years-old also from Broxtowe, has numerous concerns about off-road bikers.

Mr Coy told Nottinghamshire Live that he once reported a burnt-out bike in the park and voiced that his main concerns are not being able to peacefully walk his dogs, who don't like motorbike sounds.

Mr Coy added: "It's mostly young people that tear up and down the park, which is incredibly noisy and not fair on dog walkers or those who are out jogging".

Mr Coy feels that having the presence of community protection officers on Broxtowe Country Park would reduce his concerns as he "feels threatened" at times by those on the bikes.

Local councillor for Nuthall and Strelley, Paul Simpson, told Nottinghamshire Live that off-road bikers in the Broxtowe area are a "continuing problem".

Mr Simpson urged people to be careful and reassured residents that the police are aware of the issue.

Ashley Hanocks, 26, from Broxtowe is self-employed. Mr Hanocks says that he personally doesn't have a problem with off-road bikers however, he "understands why some people do".
