Encouraging trend in NSTR, says forest official

India’s wild tiger population has shown record growth, with the country proving to be the one of the safest habitats for the big cat, accounting for 70 percent of all tigers across the world, environmental officials said on International Tiger Day.

The number of wild tigers has increased in five of the countries where the endangered animal resides, conservationists have said. More big cats have been recorded in Bhutan, China, India, Nepal and Russia, a decade on from the launch of an ambitious scheme to double the population of the species.
