Coatbridge High becomes North Lanarkshire's first school to scoop digital award

Coatbridge High has become the first secondary school in North Lanarkshire to be awarded the prestigious Digital Schools Award.

Pupils and staff were celebrated after scooping the sought-after honour, which recognises their “excellence in integrating digital technology into learning and teaching”.

Mr Henderson, principal teacher of digital learning, told Lanarkshire Live : “I am delighted we have received this award.

"It is recognition of the commitment our staff have demonstrated to adapting and evolving during difficult times to ensure that our pupils receive the very best experiences.”

Digital Schools Awards is a national programme aiming to 'promote, recognise and encourage a whole school approach to the use of digital technology in primary and secondary schools'.

Schools that successfully complete the programme receive nationally recognised accreditation by Education Scotland.

Senior pupils Dana Hamil and Innes Mitchell took part in a validation meeting with Digital School Scotland.

Innes told Lanarkshire Live : “I'm really pleased we were able to represent our school; this is a really great achievement.”

Pupils and staff at Coatbridge High have worked exceptionally hard over the past 12 months, embracing digital technologies to navigate their way through a challenging year with COVID-19 and home learning.

Head Teacher Christine Creaney added: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this prestigious award.

"With its recognition of the commitment, collaboration and creativity displayed by our staff and pupils across the school; it has been a real team effort.

"This is especially valued in a year where the continuity of education of our young people depended upon the digital learning more than ever.”
