Christian Eriksen has suggested in an interview in his native Denmark that he may be on the lookout for a move away from Tottenham in search of a new challenge.
The Dane has been a key player for the last six seasons in north London as part of Mauricio Pochettino's grand project but now says he wants something new.
Alasdair Gold, football.london 's Tottenham correspondent, has his understanding on the situation that could lead to Eriksen parting company with Spurs in the coming weeks.
He said: "It's not massively shocking news let's be honest, we kind of always assumed that was the case with him and certainly coming out of Denmark before there was always the thought that if Real Madrid came knocking he would look to move on.
"I mean he's been at the club I think it's six years now, so it's partly understandable, partly you would say that Tottenham maybe now are on the cusp of actually going on to achieve something or to buiild on something.
"But then I suppose if Tottenham can get big money for Eriksen maybe they can look to bring in new faces and freshen up.
"Pochettino seemingly has been aware of it for a while because he's been talking about this painful rebuild and that would include players like Eriksen moving on."
There is also the question of how Spurs could look to replace him and what sort of player they could tempt to N17 to fill the hole left by Eriksen.
