Cardiff Italian restaurant Café Minuet has shut after more than 30 years

After 33 years of serving homemade pasta dishes and their famous 'slippers' through their traditional Italian hatch, Cardiff 's Café Minuet has closed.

The Italian restaurant, which is in the Castle Arcade, was opened in 1986 by Marcello Genesi, a Pescara-born chef who moved to the Welsh capital in 1970.

The chef, whose love of music influenced the café's decor as well as the menu, handed over ownership of the restaurant to one of his staff, Nadine Lodwick, in 2010.

It is not clear who owned the café at the time of closure, but there is a forfeiture notice on the window of the restaurant, dated May 7, from Savills, who are representing the landlords of the property.

We have contacted the Castle Quarter and Savills about the future of the property, but they declined to comment.

Café Minuet is the latest Cardiff restaurant to close, following Truffles on Church Street and Milgi in Roath.
