Cardiff Bay zip wire customers sent welcome email despite experience being scrapped

Customers who booked to go on a Cardiff Bay zip wire were sent a welcome email reminding them of their planned trip despite the plug being pulled on the project.

The Zip Now Cardiff ride would have stretched from the top of St David's Hotel to a landing near the Norwegian Church and had been recommended planning permission despite objections from local residents.

But the firm behind the plans City Zip Company Ltd withdrew the application for the second time and is now understood to have started an insolvency process.

Despite having never opened Zip Now Cardiff had started selling tickets to customers in advance and now the ride is no longer going ahead people who bought tickets are yet to receive a refund.

But some customers have received emails reminding them of their bookings and welcoming them to the attraction.

The email read: "Only one more sleep until you're riding with Zip Now Cardiff! We hope the excitement doesn't stop you from getting a good night's sleep. We're expecting excellent conditions for your ride tomorrow ensuring great visibility across the bay."

The email then goes onto to provide safety advice, booking details and the address of the attraction. One of the customers who received the email said it felt like a kick in the teeth as he was still waiting for a refund.

David Collier, 51 and from Ely, said: "Saturday was supposed to be my zip and I'm quite angry at the email they've sent because that rubs salt into the wounds.

"I booked it over two years ago and it was suspended from last year to Saturday. I paid £27 and I'm not likely to get that back.

"They don't want to know and then you get this email. Someone has sat in front of the computer or phone and decided to send an email people to wind people up and they have made me cross. They've taken my money and told me I'm not entitled to a refund and I don't know what to do with them.

"It's unfair because people have paid money in good faith."

Insolvency is when a company can't afford to pay the money it owes.

An insolvent company can enter a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), which is a deal between an insolvent company and its creditors, according to Company Rescue.

The City Zip Company Limited is still listed as "active" on Companies House.

Administrators David Rubin and Partners, who are handling City Zip Company Ltd's insolvency process, have been approached for comment.
