Jan. 21--Ducks fans won't need a long-and-winding introduction to the team's newest player: forward Ryan Garbutt.
They can just go back and watch video clips of the Ducks' first-round playoff series against the Dallas Stars in 2014. For starters, Garbutt was ejected in Game 5 for spearing Anaheim's Corey Perry.
The former antagonist was added on Thursday morning to give back the Ducks some snarl and edginess. Ducks General Manager Bob Murray acquired Garbutt from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Jiri Sekac.
It was Murray's second trade in less than a week as the Ducks seem to be shifting back to their old physical identity.
The 30-year-old Garbutt has 242 penalty minutes in 241 career games with Dallas and Chicago.
He was traded to Chicago by the Stars in the summer, along with Trevor Daley, for Patrick Sharp and Stephen Johns. This season, he has two goals, six points and 27 penalty minutes in 43 games.
The Sekac era in Anaheim was a short one. He showed brief moments of skill after joining the Ducks late last season in the Devante Smith-Pelly trade with Montreal. Sekac had one goal and three points in 22 games this season.
