BRIEF: Pedestrian struck, killed by Metrolink train in Orange

Nov. 22--A man was struck and killed Saturday after running in front of a Metrolink train in the city of Orange, police said.

The incident occurred about 5:45 p.m. on La Veta Avenue near Glassell Street. The man went around the pedestrian gate and ran across the tracks as a train rolled through, said Lt. Jeff Bird of the Orange Police Department.

The man, described only as an adult, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We're not sure yet if it was suicide, or if he ran across thinking he had enough time before the train arrived," Bird said.

A witness saw the man run around the pedestrian gates and onto the tracks, Bird said.

The train was traveling northbound from the San Clemente area. Authorities are still on scene investigating the incident, and travelers should expect some delays, Bird said.
