BRIEF: Eagle Rock home evacuated after homeowner finds fake dynamite

May 31--An Eagle Rock home was evacuated Saturday afternoon when a homeowner cleaning out his garage discovered what looked like decades-old sticks of dynamite, but they turned out to be movie props, police said.

The bomb squad was called out to the 2400 block of Hill Drive about 2:30 p.m. Saturday after the homeowner found eight sticks of the fake dynamite, said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities cleared the area and examined the sticks for the next two hours, initially believing the sticks were 25-year-old dynamite. But expert technicians determined they were props, Lopez said.

"They looked old as dirt," he said.

The Hollywood dynamite was safely removed from the premises and the scene was cleared shortly before 5 p.m.

There were no injuries or threats, real or fake, according to police.
