Aug. 12--Bernie's Lunch Supper (660 N. Orleans St., 312-624-9892) will make its debut Monday, Aug. 17 in River North.
The restaurant comes from Zack Sklar's Peas and Carrots Hospitality group, which owns several restaurants in suburban Detroit. Named for Sklar's grandfather, Bernie's Lunch Supper will seat 100 in its main dining room; a rooftop patio and bar is planned, but no opening date is set.
The menu includes a lot of small plates with global influences, such as bacalao croquettes with Serrano ham, bass crudo with mango and papadum (a thin Indian cracker), and mussels with white beans and chorizo. A wood-burning oven will cook pizzas, roasted oysters and sweet corn. Along with individual entrees, the menu will offer three sized-for-two mains, including a cote de boeuf.
The restaurant will be open for dinner service initially. Lunch, brunch and happy hour to come.
Reservations are being taken by phone; OpenTable reservations will begin Monday.
