Oct. 28--As many as 10 passengers and crew members were injured Tuesday morning when an Amtrak train bound for Chicago struck a semitrailer about 30 miles north of Lafayette, Ind., officials said.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said none of the injuries appeared serious aboard the Hoosier State train, which hit the truck on a marked crossing around 7:45 a.m. Central time in White County.
He said the injured were being treated at the scene and it was not clear how many would be taken to hospitals.
WLFI-TV in Lafayette reported that the conductor on the train was also involved in last year's train crash near Monon, Ind. Officials said the conductor suffered minor injuries in Tuesday's crash.
The train was carrying 56 passengers and three crew members from Indianapolis to Chicago, Magliari said. Buses were being used to get the passengers to their scheduled stops, which include Rensselaer and Dyer, Ind., and Chicago.
