1 dead, 3 wounded in Chicago shootings

Feb. 05--A man was shot dead and another man wounded in a shooting in the Wrightwood neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, while two other men were wounded in shootings in Chicago Wednesday morning, police said.

A 20-year-old man was fatally shot in the 3100 block of West 84th Place following the shooting about 3:10 p.m. in the Wrightwood neighborhood, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Thomas Sweeney.

He was identified as Curtis Lyons, of the 8000 block of South Richmond Street. He was pronounced dead at 3:39 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

A 19-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

A person of interest is in custody, authorities said.

A 20-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the right arm in the 1200 block of South Avers Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood about 11:05 a.m., said police spokesman Officer Jose Estrada.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

The man said he was standing on the street when he heard multiple shots and felt he had been shot, but he told police he did not see his attackers, Estrada said.

Earlier Wednesday, a man was shot and seriously wounded in the Englewood neighborhood.

The man was in the 7000 block of South Carpenter Street when he was shot in the arm and leg at 9:08 a.m., Estrada said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

No information on the circumstances of the shooting was being released.
