BRIEF: 1 in 5 Americans say they'll never get out of debt

Dec. 10--Almost 1 in 5 Americans with debt said they'll never ever get out of it, according to a CreditCards.com survey.

That's double the 9 percent who gave that response last year in a survey conducted by CreditCards.com. CreditCards.com is a credit card comparison website.

Also, 43 percent of those with debt expect to carry that load into their 60s, said CreditCards.com.

The land-line and cellphone survey of 1,001 adults living in the continental U.S. was conducted in English and Spanish this month by Princeton Survey Research Associates International.

The margin of error for the survey is about plus or minus 4 percentage points.
