Boy hurt in bike fall, man impaled on fencing machinery

A CHILD has been flown to the John Hunter Hospital in one of two incidents that kept the Westpac rescue helicopter busy on Sunday afternoon.

The helicopter was called to Denman after the 10-year-old boy suffered suspected head and neck injuries falling from a motorcycle.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was flown to hospital in a stable condition.

Separately, a 70-year-old man was impaled on fencing equipment in a Lovedale incident.

The chopper's critical care paramedic and doctor performed "a delicate procedure" to extricate the man from the machinery near Cessnock.

A spokesman said he suffered abdomen and internal injuries.

He was flown to the John Hunter in a serious but stable condition.
